Movie Description

Chandar, the Black Leopard of Ceylon, is a 1972 Walt Disney Productions animal adventure film. Directed by long-time Disney favorite Winston Hibler, who wore many hats in the Disney organization, including producer, director, writer, narrator, even actor.

Chandar is a rare black leopard in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) who lives an idyllic existence early in life. Separated from his family later on during a ferocious jungle fire, Chandar is forced to learn to survive and live on his own. Befriended by a Buddhist monk, Chandar falls in with the monk and his young protege. Disaster nearly strikes when the young boy is almost trampled by elephants, and Chandar is captured by hunters who sell him to a circus.

The film is breathtakingly beautiful, with rarely seen glimpses of southern India, including remote Buddhist temples. There are some scenes of violence involving animals, but for the most part the film is "family-friendly" and well worth the 90 minutes of viewing.
