Movie Description

A collaborative effort between Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions, 1981's Dragonslayer is a fantasy film set in an imaginary land populated by wizards, dragons, and all that goes with it. Spielberg and Lucas protege Matthew Robbins directed.

A dragon named Vermithrax Pejorative is laying waste to the mythical kingdom of Urland, and the powers-that-be set about to find someone to vanquish the 400-year old behemoth. After witnessing the death of his mentor wizard, Galen Bradwarden (Peter MacNicol) volunteers for the daunting task, ignoring the doubts of villagers, who insist Galen is too young for the job.

Sacrificial virgins, earthquakes, magical amulets, human teleportation, and a brood of baby dragons all factor into the plot, as Galen encounters, then defeats all manner of obstacles in his quest to save the kingdom and of course, win the heart of the land's fairest maiden.

Superb special effects highlight Dragonslayer, courtesy of Industrial Light and Magic's wizardry.
