Movie Description

Adapted from a series of works by Laurens Van der Post, the 1993 Walt Disney Pictures film, A Far Off Place, stars Reese Witherspoon, Ethan Randall and Jack Thompson in an African-based drama-adventure.

Nonnie (Witherspoon) and Harry (Randall) are the sole survivors of a massacre at an isolated farm in the African savanna. Now sought after by the perpetrators because they are the only witnesses to the slaughter, Nonnie and Harry have but one chance at survival, and that's to embark upon a thousand-mile plus trek across the Kalahari Desert. Joining them is a native African bushman whose rudimentary knowledge of the region proves to be invaluable.

A Far Off Place is a study in dogged determination and resolve, as well as a lesson in teamwork and learning to get along with others, despite seemingly irreparable differences.

Noted Danish filmmaker Mikael Salomon made his American film directing debut with A Far Off Place.
