Movie Description

The 1967 Disney production of The Gnome-Mobile is adapted from the 1936 Upton Sinclair novel, The Gnomobile. Directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney, which was one of his final turns as producer, The Gnome-Mobile is a fantasy involving two children and their uncle who happen across a pair of gnomes deep in the forest.

The trio's discovery creates a sensation, leading to all sorts of unwanted attention upon the area, most disturbingly a freak show impresario who announces plans to capture and display the gnomes, as well as several less-than-virtuous land developers.

Walter Brennan is featured in a double role: A local lumber baron and Knobby, a 943-year old gnome. The two children are portrayed by Matthew Garber and Karen Dotrice, who also appeared together three years earlier in Mary Poppins. Other familiar faces include Richard Deacon, Charles Lane and in what subsequently proved to be his final screen appearance, Ed Wynn.
