In 3-D, On Stranger Tides, the fourth in the wildly popular box-office smash Pirates of the Caribbean series, chronicles more of the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his maritime meanderings. Johnny Depp once again reprises his role as the irrepressible Sparrow, this time on a quest for the legendary Fountain of Youth.
In a unique twist from earlier installments, On Stranger Tides (inspired by the Tim Powers novel) features real-life historical icons such as King George II (Richard Griffiths) and the notorious pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane). Penelope Cruz plays Angelica, the daughter of Blackbeard and the object of Captain Jack's affection. This bizarre "triangle" provides additional intrigue to the guaranteed action and adventure that movie-goers have come to expect.
On Stranger Tides is directed by Rob Marshall, his first turn in the chair for the series, the first three of which were directed by Gore Verbinski. Reportedly there are two additional installments planned in the "Pirates" series.
