Treasure Planet is an animated science fiction production adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson's adventure classic, Treasure Island. Treasure Planet utilizes the unique process of 3-D computer animation overlaying traditional hand-drawn 2-D animation, creating a completely one-of-a-kind visual experience.
As in the original classic tale of a young boy's daydream adventures come-to-life, Treasure Planet follows the same template, only now the setting revolves around spaceships and space-pirates instead of the wide-open sea and looting buccaneers. The same characters appear as in Treasure Island (with a few exceptions), only upgraded as per the change of time and surroundings.
Many familiar actors provided voices for Treasure Planet, most notably Patrick McGoohan, David Hyde-Pierce, Martin Short, Emma Thompson, Brian Murray and Roscoe Lee Browne.
Written, produced and directed by the veteran Disney animation team of Ron Clements and John Musker, Treasure Planet is yet another impressive addition to their resume, which includes The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules.
